Reeling from a heartbreaking defeat last season, the Bulacan State University Golden Gears Valorant team pulled off a string of well-executed schemes to demolish their rival University of the Philippines Oblation Esports, in a dominant 13-3 victory and secured a seat in the Acad Arena Alliance Games Valorant Group Stages.
BulSU finally got their revenge after being eliminated by UP in last year’s tournament. The Golden Gear played like a well-oiled machine as they displayed scintillating finishes one after the other to rip the Oblation Esports in Week 2 of the Play-Ins.

“Naglaan kami ng mga araw para makapag-strategize in different maps, no scrims kami on some days, and nag-focus talaga kami on what to execute going into different maps, and inalis namin yung plays that didn't actually worked,” BulSU Team Manager Clyde Jan Pascual stated in an online interview.
The team roster consists of Team Captain Jefferson San Jose, together with Khris Fernando, Nash Virrel Cruz, Vincent Paul Lubio, Ronan Vincent Martin, Mark Maglalang, and King Mc Chester Tabing, with Team Manager Pascual and Coach Albert Kobe Conde Serrano at the helm.
Golden Gears opened up their campaign with a statement win against the West Visayas Leviathans Ghost, 13-3.
GG then faced the gritty iAcademy Elix Hydra troop on Day1 of the Week 2 Play-Ins. It was a neck-to-neck battle all throughout, but BulSU then delivered a strong, well-coordinated play that put the game away, 13-7.
The team cruised past their competitors as they finished the elimination round with an unblemished record, 3-0.
The squad will be one of the remaining 16 teams out of the 79-participating schools in the tournament that will be gunning it out for the P1,000,000 prize pool and the P375,000 worth of scholarships along with it.
“Our preparations heading into the Group Stage will remain much the same: Continuous yung trainings namin, continuous yung scouting namin ng next opponents, and tuloy-tuloy na pag-improve on even the smallest details like comms and technicalities since hindi kami pwedeng magpabaya ngayon and for some of our players, last chance na ng iba to para makapaglaro for our team since graduating na sila,” Pascual added.
They will be facing the Malayan Colleges of Laguna, the University of Santo Tomas, and the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde in a double-elimination round. The group stage for the Alliance Games will commence on October 29, 2022 and will be broadcasted on AcadArena’s social media platforms – Facebook, Twitch, and Youtube.
