MALOLOS CITY - Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando led the giant Christmas tree lighting and staged a fireworks display in the Provincial Capitol yesterday at 8:30 pm as the holiday season awaits.

Bulakenyos gathered to watch the estimated 40-foot tall Christmas tree made of LED lights in the center of Capitol grounds.

“Ang ating pananabik na masilayan ang mga pailaw ay laging nag-aalab, tulad ng puso nating mga Bulakenyo,” Governor Fernando said in his speech.

Prior to the lighting display, light-adorned carrozas with people dressed up as Christmas and biblical figures marched around New Malolos City Hall to Provincial Capitol.

Parade of lighted carrozas consists of people costumed with biblical and Christmas figures.

"Ang naging motivation po namin para sumali dito ay to give back with Lord. Kasi alam naman po natin na ang dami pong nangyaring hindi maganda pero mas marami pa rin po talaga yung mas maganda at best na nangyari ngayong taon," said Ms. Lyka I. Bercilla, a teacher in The Cardinal Academy, Inc. who takes part in the parade.

The "Parada ng Christmas Carozzas 2022" was organized by Rev. Fr. Ibarra Mercado of St. Joseph the Worker Parish Meycauayan, which participated by different schools and organizations, including The Cardinal Academy Inc., Parish Commission on Youth (PCY) of Medallion and Pandayan II, Commission on Evangelization, Commission on Liturgy, Commission on Social Action, Batang Pandayan Namwah Resto, and St. Anne Academy of Meycauayan.

The purpose of the said event was to show an early appreciation of Christ's birth and for Bulakenyos to feel the spirit of Christmas.

"Kaya natin ito ginagawa syempre ay nais nating batiin at bigyan ng mas mataas na parangal ang ating Panginoon sapagkat siya ang ating hari ng kapayapaan at sa pamamagitan ng pagcecelebrate natin ng Christmas Tree [Lighting] ay doon sumisimbolo ng pagsilang ng isang Hari ng Mesias," Fernando stated.

Other government officials, including Vice Governor Alex Castro, First District Congressman Danny A. Domingo, and Fifth District Board Member Cezar Teta Mendoza are present in the ceremony with the main event organizer, Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz, Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) Head.
