Having the desire to reform changes through their creativity and wit, LLK candidates deliver themselves and their advocacies during the pageants coronation night.
Yesterday, November 21, marked the last day of Student Rights and Welfare month with the theme, "President's Gambit: To Expose and To Reclaim" at Bulacan State University, and set the finals of Lakan at Lakambini ng Karapatan 2022 as an ender for the month-long event.
All the candidates showed off their beauty, wit, talents, and good standpoints in the society, but Justine Ocampo of Bustos Campus and Jude Claire Cruz of College of Arts and Letters dominated the pageant and hailed as the Lakan at Lakambini ng Karapatan 2022.
The newly-crowned Lakan at Lakambini ng Karapatan 2022 impressed the audience and judges with their overall performance, especially their answer in the last Q & A portion.
Justine Ocampo of Bustos Campus answered the question, "Should the government suspend excise taxes on fuel? Will it be beneficial for those who drive for a living or not?"
Ocampo confidently answered.
While Jude Claire Cruz of the College of Arts and Letters had the question, "Should we impose taxes on the wealthy and riches? Will it give equality to those who pay taxes?"
"Ako ay sumasang-ayon na dapat sa mga malalaking kompanya ipataw ang mga buwis at hindi sa ating masa... Hirap na hirap na tayo. Kahit tayo bilang mga estudyante, ang hirap nang maka-survive…" Cruz stated.
Ocampo also represented Bustos Campus in last year's competition but failed to bring home the crown. In contrast, the glory of Cruz brings CAL a back-to-back champion title for Lakambini ng Karapatan.
For other winners, Merwyn Cruz of the College of Social Science and Philosophy and Kishi Delos Reyes of the College of Education were crowned as Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalayaan, while Mark Lawrence Contreras of the College of Arts and Letters and Mhizie Angela Mendoza of College of Science got the Lakan at Lakambini ng Karunungan title.
Gilbert Israel of the College of Criminal Justice Education and Dianne Manuel of the College of Nursing hailed as first-runner-ups, Ritcher Von Dela Cruz and Rose Chanel Malgapo of the College of Engineering as second-runner-ups, and Harry Kim Bade of the College of Nursing and Hannah Racell Driza of College of Social Science and Philosophy as third-runner ups.

Showcasing talents as BulSUans should, some colleges and students prepared special numbers to entertain and give a message to the crowd.
With their talents and creativity, the College of Arts and Letters performed a contemporary dance that unfolds their mental health advocacy, storytelling the discrimination and ignorance of society when it comes to mental health issues.
Also, a duo from the college prepared an intermission number dedicated to overseas Filipino workers' experiences and hardships.
The event started with a loud parade where students shouted their hearts out while holding placards containing their advocacies.
Atty. Chel Diokno also appeared on the big screen, delivering his opening remarks for the closing salvo of SRW month, reminding the audience to be watchdogs of the government, break the silence, and always fight for injustices.
For the part of SRW President Patricia Anne Camus, she also emphasized the main agenda of the pageant: "Isabuhay ang mga adbokasiya ng mga kandidato... pag-aralan at suriin natin ang bawat bitbit-bitbit [na adbokasiya] ng kolehiyo."
SRW month is an annual celebration of BulSUans, acknowledging advocacies of change and opening venues to address social issues and discourses.
This year marks the re-opening of face-to-face celebration of the event compared to last year's virtual space celebration caused by the pandemic protocols.
